Chapter 26
Into the Forest
“In a sense, therefore, we are actually breathing in the stars—breathing in their essence, so that all these now have a share in our own being. That they must do so is quite a thought, since it suggests that the firmament might be much closer to ourselves than we think, and certainly cannot be apart from us.
—White Eagle, Spiritual Unfoldment Two
Moon Clan Community – 11,000 BCE
Master Ra-Ma’at knew that the final tidbit about the prophecy concerning Taivyn would keep Korin busy for days, as there was no shortage of ancient prophecies among the Moon Clan people. The search would be futile, however, because the record containing that prophecy was stored within a crystal, and that crystal could only be found within the Crystal Library in the Realm of Faerie. Who knew if the prophecy was referring to Taivyn, but one couldn’t be too careful. Now he just needed to make ready for departure.
Master Ra-Ma’at gathered up all the things he absolutely needed: a few herbs, a scroll with a map of the Forest and its corresponding ley lines, and some rations of brown bread, cheese, fruit, and a flask of fresh water. He placed it all in the center of a square cloth. He gathered up the ends and tied them together with a rope, forming a travel bundle.
Darkness finally set in, revealing the sparkling lights of stars and unidentified flying objects that sporadically frequented the night sky. Master Ra-Ma’at waited patiently until the sounds and voices of those still awake finally died down. He grabbed his staff and without further delay, he embarked on his journey.
He crept beyond the community walls. Noises of the mundane world faded away and a certain stillness set in, allowing the sounds of the night to take the main stage. Crickets, night birds, and a frog could be heard as they played a nocturnal symphony that welcomed the dusk. Master Ra-Ma’at listened closely and smiled. He was almost certain he had heard the frog’s uniquely intoxicating serenade, only sung in preparation for a very special and auspicious occasion. He had not received word from any of the elders that the Crossing of the Frog and the Mushroom was occurring any time soon. After all, it was Maob who had been tasked to chart the Mushroom’s movements. Surely, he would have sent word to indicate that the time of crossing was approaching. He had hoped he had not missed something like this. He waved the thought away. He could not give in to such mental indulgences now. He would need all his acumen to attend to the quest ahead.
He heard the frog’s melody sound again. Impossible, he thought to himself. Then again, when one had lived as long as he had, one came to realize that nothing was impossible—implausible maybe, but never impossible. Perhaps this might account for some of his unanswered questions, and perhaps even his disconcerting dreams. If he was truly hearing what he thought he was hearing, then his quest was timely indeed.
